Try to recreate the pointilistic effect with over exposure and over saturation.
Jan Toorop was a Dutch-Indonesian painter, who worked in various styles, including Symbolism, Impressionism, Art Nouveau, and Pointilism – a technique that he has used for this portrait of Marie Jeanette de Lange.
De Lange chaired the Association for the Improvement of Women’s Clothing, which propagated hygienic, loose-fitting, natural clothing that allowed women greater freedom of movement.
In February 1900 she posed at home, seated and dressed comfortably, for Jan Toorop. Using tiny dots of colourful paint, the artist created a sparkling portrait of a modern woman on the threshold of a new century.
